Have fun at home with Buddathlon challenge
An initiative encouraging people to create fun activities at home using whatever they have to hand has been launched by Sutton Coldfield Community Games. The Buddathlon challenge has been laid down
by the Community Games’ mascot, Buddy, and urges people to have fun by creating as many different types of activities as they can. Participants are being urged to capture their
activities on camera and post to social media using the hashtag #Buddathlon. A digital guide of the best ideas will then be
created. Community Games founder Dennis Kennedy said: “I’ve been thinking a great deal about how at
this moment in time, when we are not able to come together physically as a community, we can remain active, which is vital for our health and happiness, perhaps more so now than ever before. “So this fun challenge is our way of digitally
still connecting our community and helping people to stay active. “My dream is to build a fantastic community
resource that we can share back, share with people, families and schools, and also to people with limited digital access too. Let’s all get creative, have fun and help each other.” Visitors to the Community Games’ Facebook
page can watch Buddy’s video then sumbit their own, using #Buddathlon.

Town Centre Masterplan update
By councillor Simon Ward, leader, Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council
In November 2019, the Sutton Coldfield Town Centre Regeneration Partnership (TCRP) commissioned an ambitious masterplan to reinvigorate Sutton Coldfield town centre. Consultants Tibbalds CampbellReith developed a series of ‘Big Moves’ based on local research and tested these at public consultation events and workshops in February and early March 2020. Shortly after this, government introduced
unprecedented social distancing limits on where and how people can meet during the Covid-19 pandemic that resulted in the current UK-wide lockdown. Life changed almost overnight for many and the Town Council’s key priority since then has been to support charitable and voluntary organisations helping vulnerable members of the community during this period. The Town Council remains dedicated to
Online support for Sutton Coldfield
Sutton Coldfield organisations are being urged to join a listings website to keep locals up to date on essential amenities during the Covid-19 crisis. Support Sutton Coldfield is a free resource hub providing business
support and showcasing services of local organisations, establishments and charitable schemes across the Royal Town. It has been created by Sutton Coldfield Town Centre BID and Adventure Graphics. The website is continually being updated with useful links and important
business updates throughout the pandemic to ensure the community is kept abreast of the latest news and support available. Mike Bushell, Sutton Coldfield Town Centre BID manager, said: “It’s important to support local businesses at this time and share useful contacts that we know about. We are all in this together.” Residents can find details of key businesses that are open, designated shopping hours for
vulnerable shoppers and key workers, and where it’s possible to place online orders. The online hub also includes details of Sutton Coldfield Town Hall’s foodbank scheme, business
advice, resources from the BID and town centre information via the Sutton Card loyalty scheme. Visit the website at

revitalising Sutton Coldfield town centre as set out in our latest Strategic Plan. With uncertainty around how retail, leisure and communal spaces will operate in the short and medium term once the lockdown eases, the town centre masterplan will help provide confidence to businesses and residents that we can come through this period and remain an exciting and appealing destination for visitors. Tibbalds CampbellReith continue to
develop their ideas and consider what impact the changing social and businesses environment may mean for town centres in the future. While the original completion date of April 2020 is no longer achievable, work continues remotely to ensure a robust and achievable masterplan is produced for Sutton Coldfield town centre. The Town Council and TCRP members are also reviewing promotional support for the town centre as and when government advises it is safe for businesses to begin reopening.
