Brewers sponsors stay on board


Two of Burton Albion’s main sponsors have vowed to stand by the club during the Covid-19 crisis. The pair are shirt sponsor Prestec and local


caravan and motor home company Don Amott. Prestec UK Ltd was established in Birmingham


in 1985, relocating to Barton under Needwood in 2014 and the company is an established name in the field of construction, structural repair and refurbishment. The firm has been the Brewers’ shirt sponsor for the past two years and club chairman Ben Robinson said: “Our partnership goes far beyond a shirt sponsorship deal. Prestec has been deeply involved in all aspects of what we do here and recognises the community focus of everything we try and achieve. These are incredibly difficult times for all businesses, not just football clubs, so for Prestec to commit to again supporting us next season, when we don’t yet even know the start date, is a fantastic gesture.” Prestec director David Hewlett said: “ For us


as a business to continue being involved with Burton Albion is a no-brainer. “It’s currently a very tough period for


businesses of all sizes, but we recognise the challenges that our local football club faces and we’ve been delighted to extend our shirt sponsorship deal to support the club. “Seeing the recent work that Burton Albion

IT firm launches help for vulnerable children


Uttoxeter-based IT support firm Infinity has launched a campaign called ‘#DonateToEducate’ to raise awareness of children who are not able to access to online learning at home during the Covid-19 pandemic. The firm’s marketing manager, Leanne


Kavvadia, said it was hoped to raise £5,000 for The Children’s Society. She said: “Unfortunately, the issue goes much


deeper than just lack of resources for online learning, which is why we have setup a fundraiser for The Children's Society and pledge to raise £5,000. “The Covid-19 crisis has put vulnerable


children in even more danger. Lockdown means they are hidden from view and trapped at home, at risk of abuse and neglect and without the vital support they need. They’re all alone, trying to cope with their worries, fears and worsening mental health.”

Covid-19 testing centre as well as providing a home for NHS midwifery services, with the facilities provided free of charge. Burton Albion Chairman Ben Robinson said:


“Don’s passion for sport and supporting the community are well known and we have enjoyed a successful partnership for a number of years. “It’s tough times at present for all businesses


but such is the strength of our relationship that Don was quick to pledge his continued support. “With Prestec UK agreeing to continue being


our front-of-shirt sponsors and now Don Amott backing the Brewers as well, this shows the


strength and commitment of our major partners and their desire to see football back as soon as possible.”


Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough has left the club as part of cost-cutting measures to help it stay afloat. Clough, one of the league’s longest serving managers before his departure, was in his second spell at the Pirelli Stadium, having returned there in 2015. As well as Clough, his assistant, Gary Crosby, and brother and chief scout Simon Clough have also left the club. Clough has described the situation for League One and Two clubs as “incredibly precarious”.


Grant scheme is overwhelmed


A county council grants scheme for small businesses in Staffordshire affected by the Covid-19 outbreak received such a massive response it has already closed. The scheme was aimed a businesses with nine employees or less, who could apply for grants


of up to £1,000. The businesses must have been registered in Staffordshire and have an annual turnover of less


than £2m a year. The £500,000 emergency fund was designed to help businesses that could not get support


from other initiatives and in its first week received 1,600 applications, later whittled down to 600. All the funding has been allocated and the scheme has now closed. Staffordshire County Council’s economic growth leader Mark Winnington said: “This is a critical


initiative for the county council and demonstrates our commitment to supporting micro businesses through incredibly difficult times. “We knew there would be high demand and as soon as we launched the scheme last Monday


our growth hub team was inundated with calls. The team is working hard to process the applications so we would ask people to bear with us. “It is important that we are thorough with this process and respond to all the applicants. We


know there will be some disappointed businesses but we do have a finite resource and our team will support them in any way they can. “I’d like to thank businesses for getting in touch and reassure them that we will respond as


soon as possible. Our priority, working with our partners, is to ensure we are doing all we can to support businesses through this period.”
