were quite amazing. That whole tour is definitely a gigantic memory that I will cherish forever.
Favorite person to make music with? I think without a doubt would be my buddy the bass player from The Grapes who I’ve been mak- ing music with since 1984, Charlie Lonsdorf. we are still such great brothers, all the guys in The Grapes we are still tight and Charlie especially. Charlie and I shared many many many hours of our lives together making music or going to see music together, being on Dead tour, playing music on our own tours, writing music together. By far I get the most joy out of playing music with Charlie. No offense to all the musicians I have played with in the past.
What was the biggest show you ever played? I guess if we are going to go by crowd size, it would have to be the 1992 Great Atlanta Pot Festival with The Black Crowes, The Grapes, and the Urban Shake Dancers, who eventually went out with the Black Crowes. I believe it was their first or second tour the Urban Shake Dancers went out as the opening act for The Crowes. That crowd filled Piedmont park up in Midtown At- lanta. from all city estimates, police estimates, and everything I’ve ever read it was right at 50,000 people. It was insane as far as you could see it was a sea of people. it poured down rain as we first started our set and not a person left, fortunately it was spring and not cold. Crazy, that was the biggest crowd I ever played for, 1992. The biggest show as to me, in
my eyes venue wise was probably the trip going overseas a couple months ago and playing Wembley with The Tedeschi Trucks Band when we did the Blackberry Smoke and the Tedeschi Trucks Band show over there. That was a big deal.
One venue on my bucket list is
Red Rocks ( I am holding out for a BBS headliner show) and I saw the photos you posted from there last year where your wonderful wife got to join you. Share that experience with us, the venue, the crowd and as a husband the experience of shar- ing that with your wife. Red Rocks was an experience. Fortunately, my wife got to fly out there and see both shows and hang out with us and have a good
time. After being on the road for 4 weeks that was cool to have her come out and meet us there.
Tell us about a day on the road with Black- berry Smoke. It usually follows the same pattern generally when you’re on the bus. The bus is rolling in the
