News | Fen Extreme Effort
We are all used to dipping our hands into our pockets with the odd bingo, cake sale and raffle to support our local schools.
But Bridget Harrison, head of Witchford’s Rackham Primary School is going to extreme lengths to support her village school. She will throw herself out of a plane in a 15,000 ft tandem skydive, reaching speeds of 125mph, to help raise vital funds for improvements to the village school.
Rackham has ambitious
plans including adding stained glass to the main window in the school hall, replacing a project screen and extending its Forest Schools area.
The skydive will take place on Saturday July 4th and has already burst through the £1,000 fundraising target. Add your support at

Family Firm Expands Local Offering
Easter Egg Suncatchers
Helping out in her husband’s bespoke joinery business with everything from office work to deliveries, Emma Withell spotted the potential to expand the company offering. Husband James and his J Withell Joinery team typically work on major one-off orders such as kitchens, furniture and window frames from their Haddenham factory.
Emma is now building up her own customer base through the platform of The Joiner’s Wife, developing a range of products made from the wood offcuts from those main projects. “There were lots of things, I wanted at home from coat hooks to a dog bed and then we began to realise how marketable they are,” explains Emma. “We tested the market through a couple of local events and were delighted with the feedback.
Above: Emma Withell has launched The Joiner's Wife home accessory range alongside husband, James.
“The Joiner’s Wife range now includes
trendy cheese, pasta and gin boards, boot benches and furniture – really the only limitation is our customers’ imagination.” With an on-line website now under construction, Emma, a former chef, says being self-employed gives her and James maximum flexibility to manage their busy lives with five children and family pooch, Daisy. “We have invested in state-of-the-art machinery which is not only our
biggest asset but gives us the ability to meet all challenges,” explains James. “We are able to offer all types of orders and re-using the off- cuts is not only environmentally friendly but has turned out to be the icing on the cake.“
The children at Little Thetford Acorns Pre- School had a lovely time making their very own ‘Easter Egg Suncatchers’. You can make your own version by sticking coloured and patterned tissue paper to an Easter Egg shape on white paper. Big tip is to cut out the easter egg shape at the end, punch a hole in the top of the egg and use a short section of string to hang from a window.
