Community support groups are springing up all over the FenSCENE area as villages join forces to combat the effects of the Coronavirus and its impact on the rurally isolated.

Coveney, Haddenham, Sutton, Wilburton, Witchford and Witcham were quick to recruit volunteers to offer shopping and other support. As we are encouraged not to over-burden stretched NHS services, with its instant updates, Facebook has become the main portal for communication. Leaflet drops and even strategic signage are also helping to reach out to people most in need of support.

For those still undertaking the daily commute, there is an eerie bonus of quieter roads and quicker drives,

especially in to Cambridge. Planned events have been decimated by the restrictions imposed to try and combat the spread of the virus. Pubs, social clubs and village halls have been especially hard hit. With widespread lay-offs,

there is concern for on-going financial impacts not just for the lowest pay workers but also small businesses who

FenSCENE is playing its community role by offering free deliveries for crisis messages throughout the 15 villages within its regular distribution network. Opposite this page, you will

also find a poster which can be attached to front doors to warn visitors if you are self- isolating.

If you do not have access to social media and feel vulnerable or need support, then please contact the FenSCENE office so that we can pass on your details to your local support groups. Tel. 666663.

Moves To Combat Traffic Gridlock

Still subject to approval and funding, a planning application for the widening of the Lancaster Way arm of the Lancaster Way roundabout has been submitted in support of wider works.

A feasibility study identified that improvements at the Lancaster Way roundabout would unlock further benefits of the proposals at the A10/A142 roundabout. Neighbours at Witchford Parish Council do not consider the proposed works will be effective in improving traffic flow along this section of the A142. The Parish Council say the proposed works will not

address the difficulties in accessing the roundabout from Witchford village. They are concerned heavy goods vehicles will be

less likely to stop at the roundabout as the proposed changes will straighten out the curve in the road going across the roundabout, which would be more dangerous for other users of in particular pedestrians and cyclists. Lancaster Way Business Park, home to over 80 businesses and a rise to 2,000 jobs by the end of the year, now has its own Zipper bus service stop and has commuter bikes available for loan.

Right: The daily traffic gridlock on the A142 around Witchford is a major cause of frustration.
