MARTHA HOW REPORTS ON LOCAL ECO EFFORTS...


omparatively recently formed, a Haddenham group is co-ordinating


village efforts to address environmental sustainability. Following a local appeal, villagers Helen Marriott, Catherine Davies, and Louise Barnes, started the Sustainable Haddenham group in the summer of 2019. Within two weeks, they had 100 people interested and another four people had volunteered to be part of the group’s core organising team of Carly Juneau, Rebecca Butt, Sarah Tickle and Jonny Aldous. Sustainable Haddenham is an entirely voluntary group committed to encourage more activity around environmental issues in the village. Education is key. Core team members have met with Beavers and Brownies to publicise Terracycle. There are now four bins at the Arkenstall Centre, so far over 30kg of waste has been collected by Terracycle. TerraCycle is a recycling business which runs a volunteer recycling platform to collect conventionally non-recyclable consumer waste which can be turned into raw materials for onward use in manufacturing. The types of waste collected include: crisp packets and confectionary wrapping, babyfood pouches, toothpaste products, cosmetics containers and so on.
