Residents have until Sunday April 19th to have their say on key bus services, cycling and walking routes in and around Ely. East Cambridgeshire District Council has also developed a map of cycling and walking infrastructure. This map will form part of an overall strategy to try and secure improvements to cycle and footpaths over time as and when funding becomes available.

A questionnaire is being sent to all homes in the district – around 39,000 in total , so all residents are being asked to have their say on routes that are most important to their particular household. All completed questionnaires need to be returned to the council by the deadline day. Hard copy questionnaires can be returned to the district council offices in Ely or placed in one of more than 30 drop boxes in various public locations in local communities, including local shops, Post Office, library or in some cases

the local pub. The full list of locations is printed on the questionnaire.

Councillor Anna Bailey, leader of ECDC, said: “We are interested in hearing from everyone, drivers, walkers, horse riders and cyclists, bus service and taxi users.

“We would also like to hear the views of hiking groups, cycling groups, parish councils, businesses and schools who walk or cycle as part of their daily work or for pleasure. You can also complete the survey online by visiting the ECDC website at www.eastcambs.gov.uk/ buscyclewalk.

Three years of dedicated hard work by volunteers came to fruition with a village referendum on the Witchford Neighbourhood Plan recently. The main objectives of the plan were to maintain the rural Fenland character of the village by protecting open spaces between Witchford and Ely. Campaigners also want to enhance the green infrastructure in the village, to ensure housing meets the needs of the local population and to reduce traffic and speeding in the village while at the same time investing in Witchford’s micro-economy and connectivity to Ely. A successful outcome for the Plan will give the village greater sway in planning decisions going forward as well as a bigger share in funding allowances.

Right: Organisers of the Witchford Referendum were hoping for a clear majority vote to secure additional funding for the village.
