VILLAGE COLLEGE SCENE College Goat Project Update

The goal of keeping four pygmy goats at WVC has taken a step closer. Fundraising activities took place

throughout the summer term to raise money to create a suitable environment for the goats and to fund their on-going costs. The goats will be school pets and college house mascots. The maintenance of their environment and welfare will be an ongoing duty that all students can contribute to, teaching them about responsibility. With the help of national initiative

All The World Is A Stage

Volunteer it Yourself (VIY), a group of students have been busy erecting a fence and gate for the goats pen. VIY challenges young people to learn trade and employability skills by working on community projects. They have provided the mentoring, tools and materials to build the fence and gate over a two-day period.

Creative Arts and Wellbeing Year 10 students have taken part in two creative sessions at Wicken Fen with a strong emphasis on wellbeing.

During the first session students spent time exploring ‘Mother’ and the effect the structure had on them. They took rubbings of the materials used and then moved indoors, because of the constant rain, to build shelters. The second session saw the students generating stories and designing banners.

Students undertook a trip to London’s Globe Theatre recently. Following a tour and a brief history lesson on the demise of the former theatres, there was a chance to see actors rehearsing a production of Macbeth. For many, seeing a ‘behind the scenes’ taste of life on stage was a firm highlight of the day. For others, the acting workshops stole the show as students received pointers from professionals. Special commendation must go to those who won badges for their outstanding acting and participation. The Southwark tour at the end of the day provided a wealth of facts for both students and staff to take away.

National Careers Week For Students National Careers Week 2020 at Witchford Village College set out to engage students and feeder primary schools in as many careers events as possible. Staff got involved by filling in ‘door plaques’ which talked about their career journey, not all were always teachers. This came as a surprise to some students and gave a real talking point to how a career path was very rarely a straight line and a wealth of unrecognised experience was available for students to consider. Alumni and local employers took part in a Careers Fair where students were able to
