CHAMBER NEWS Surveying a milestone at Friars Mill

April 2020 marks the fourth anniversary of Friars Mill reopening. Friars Mill, the largest of five buildings on the managed workspace campus, has a proud history and is Leicester’s oldest surviving factory. The site can be traced back as

far as the 12th Century, with Friars Mill itself having been built in 1739. While offering contemporary work and meeting spaces in a stunning riverside location, it is also essential that the site maintains links to its unique past. As for the here and now, the campus, in the heart of Leicester, has quickly established itself as a thriving centre for growth, having opened its doors to local businesses back in 2016. Tom Munro, who has acted as

Centre Manager at Friars Mill throughout that period, said: “From a blank yet attractive campus, we have developed a fast-paced and welcoming business centre which is home to 12 growing organisations employing almost 200 staff. “Those staff and the businesses

employing them spend locally and regionally, fulfilling one of our aims.”

To mark the anniversary, Friars

Mill recently hosted a networking event for Leicestershire and Rutland’s branch of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. Rajesh Gohil, Vice Chair of RICS

Leicestershire and Rutland and the event’s organiser, said: “Tom

fascinated all of us with the unique details of both the site’s past and present architecture and the story behind Friars Mill. The evening was well received by all.” Due to a tenant business on each

of the sites having outgrown space, there is rare availability at Leicester

Food Park and Friars Mill. Anybody interested should contact Tom on 07854 065 948 or email tom.munro@emc-dnl.co.uk. Friars Mill and its sister site,

Leicester Food Park, off Lewisher Road, are run by the Chamber on behalf of Leicester City Council.
