Wedding Protocol

you have one. We also recommend gift poem cards if you are requesting mon- ey as a wedding gift for your honeymoon, or your new house. These fun cards use a poem format to politely ask for money.

Wedding Website If you have made a wedding website, your guest information

cards make a great place to share the link! Your website makes the perfect place for including smaller, less important details about your day. Many people also use their wedding websites to include a few extras, like details of the proposal, the couple’s story, song suggestions or photos of the venue.

Accommodation Options If many of your guests are traveling long distances to attend,

information about accommodation will be very welcome. Let them know if your venue is offering a discount for wedding guests, but also give alternative suggestions such as local B&Bs.

Travel Directions If your wedding venue is off the beaten track – or the ceremony

and reception are in different locations - travel information will help guests plan their day. If you are arranging transport, such as mini buses, between locations or from the nearest town, you can mention it. An exact postcode for Sat Navs is useful – unless it takes everyone into a nearby field! And remember that some people may not want to bring cars, so public transport options will be welcome. Informing guests of the different transport options they can use is something they will really appreciate. We recommend you include the phone numbers of local taxi companies for those who want to drink at the reception, as well as train stations or bus routes for non-drivers. You should also include the parking details of the venue if they are planning to drive. If you are providing the transport be- tween venues for your big day, let guests know the details of this so that they can plan accordingly. Destination wedding cards should contain flight information, including the local airport and how to get to the venue from there. We recom- mend you include a few different flight routes that guests can take to make planning easier for them.

Any Specific Rules Some people choose to have specific rules at their wed-

dings, with popular rules being ‘no mobile phones’ or ‘no cameras’, as well as the popular recent eco-friendly rules, such as ‘no plastic’. If you inform guests on your guest information cards, they will know that these guidelines are for everyone. Stating your rules in this formal format means that guests are more likely to take them seriously.

Other Activities It’s popular nowadays to arrange extra social activities

around the wedding. For example, a family brunch the day after, or an informal dinner in a restaurant the night before, especially if the wedding is abroad. Only include these on your guest cards if everyone is invited. If not, contact people individually.
