ACCOLADES FOR SPA ROYALTY

The UK Pool & Spa Awards promotes the entire spa, pool, and wellness industries…

T

he entire audience stood to recognise the outstanding contribution of two spa industry

royals at the recent UK Pool & Spa Awards presentations. Special achievement awards were

presented to Lloyd Burden of Jacuzzi Europe and Jim McClure of MAAX Spas and Covana. Jim’s career began in 1985 as National Sales Manager and then General Manager at Continental Leisure Products; a manufacturer of Continental Spas and Infiniti Spas. After Continental, Jim represented

Marquis from 1993 – 1995. As an independent sales agency, he had five agents working for him and they covered everything east of the Mississippi River. He then went on to Dimension One

from 1995 – 2003 where he started as Vice President of Sales and became General Manager in 1997. After that he moved to Coast Spas, where he was President from 2004 – 2005. Clocking up average of 250K – 300K air miles with his global role, in 2006 Jim joined MAAX as the

Lloyd Burden’s distinguished career in the hot tub and spa industry started with a Spaform hot tub in the summer of ‘93.

Having bought a Spaform for their

home, father and son partnership of David and Jonathan Bunn, were joined by their friend Lloyd Burden, at a regional show; a venture to test the water, to see if the hot tubs would sell in the UK. They took four Spaform hot tubs

to the event and Lloyd had sold the first one by lunchtime – a 12.5 x 7ft octagon for £4,500.

Fast forward three years and at that time, selling photo copiers during the week, Lloyd ultimately gave up a full time job to go a work with Jonathan at his Felbridge, East Grinstead, retail store.

The talented sales executive went

on to become a sales director for Spaform in a period that saw the UK manufacturer double turnover in a three year period. It was early as 2000 that he was first head-hunted by Jacuzzi, one leg on a spa selling journey that has come full circle, with the confirmation of his new

SPA TECHNICIAN REMEMBERED T

FORMER SPAFIX ENGINEER, Mick Boyle died in October last year.

he UK Pool & Spa Awards paid their respects to Mick Boyle, formerly of Spafix, who sadly passed

away in October. Mick was only 44 so it came as a massive shock to all that knew him including his former employees Spafix. Mick took to fixing hot tubs in no time at all and was good at it; he later developed into a decent hot tub salesman too. Mick brought an energy and enthusiasm to the industry and had a way with customers that is very hard to come by. Customers warmed to him, trusted and respected him implicitly. Mick will be sadly missed by his colleagues and friends alike.
