Could you be a Trustee for St Luke’s?

Make a difference with a leading local charity

With the launch of its five-year strategy setting ambitious goals for the next half decade, one of the region’s best- loved charities is calling for community minded people to join its Board of Trustees and help ensure it is truly representative of the community it serves. St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth is renowned for the high-calibre of its vital service, giving bespoke end of life care for terminally ill people living in Plymouth, South West Devon and East Cornwall and supporting them and their families throughout the most challenging of times. The charity is also Plymouth’s

Employer of the Year, providing a positive environment in which to work and volunteer, where its values of professionalism, respect, compassion and integrity

are at the heart of everything it does. As well as giving specialist medical care

and emotional, practical and spiritual support to those its teams come alongside, St Luke’s plays a key role providing end of life care education to other health professionals, and carries out community development with schools, employers, places of worship and voluntary groups that is encouraging more open conversations around the ‘taboo’ subjects of death, dying and bereavement so that no-one feels left behind. With a dedicated workforce of

300 staff and over 900 volunteers, St Luke’s is seeking people with the knowledge, skills

and motivation to join its dynamic trustees who govern and guide the charity as it continues to evolve in line with the changing needs of those it

serves. Decisions made by the Board ensure St Luke’s is well equipped to meet the challenges ahead, including reaching under-represented groups who sometimes struggle to be heard. Steve Statham, Chief Executive of St

Luke’s, said: “Being part of something special that makes an important difference to local families is very rewarding, and this is an exciting time to join our Board. “We have recently launched our five-

year strategy that’s setting our course of direction, striving to keep patients and families at the centre of decisions about

their care, continuing to be an employer of choice, and developing the financial and organisational resilience that will empower us to help more people who desperately need our help at end of life.” As well as contributing to board meetings, as a trustee you’ll have the opportunity to use your skills with a sub- committee that makes best use of your specific area of expertise. There’ll also be opportunities to further your experience through hearing from guest speakers and attending national conferences.
