Plymouth Citybus is celebrating success after being named the best bus operator in the country at a prestigious national awards ceremony. The Plymouth Citybus team was awarded Bus


Operator of the Year at the 2019 National Transport Awards on Thursday 31 October. Supported by the Department for Transport, the


National Transport Awards are the most prestigious awards in public transport. This award recognises the company’s success over the past year in raising passenger satisfaction, modernising its fleet and the significant contribution Citybus has made in supporting its local community. Citybus, said: “This is a huge achievement for everyone at Plymouth Citybus – we are officially the best bus operator in the country. “I’d like to thank every one of the Citybus team. This


award is for them and is testament to all their hard work over what has been a challenging year at times. After four years being shortlisted and highly

commended for this award, the win this year demonstrates that our commitment to continually improve our bus operation has paid off. “We’re really pleased that the work we’re doing is


being recognised as leading the way on a national scale. It’s important to us that transport in the city is at the forefront of innovation and this award nomination recognises our work in trying to achieve this.” Plymouth Citybus has seen employee and passenger


satisfaction scores rise to industry-leading levels, with the latter reaching 93% in 2019. Over the past year the company also increased its spend in the local community by 20%, supporting a number of worthy community projects and charitable causes. The company was shortlisted against four other bus


companies from around the UK for the Bus Operator of the Year Award including other Go-Ahead Group operator, Go South Coast Ltd, and First Glasgow, National Express West Midlands and Stagecoach East Scotland.
