Broadstone Neighbourhood Forum Update
BCP Council’s consultation on the fi rst stages of developing a new Local Plan came to an end on 18th November.
We have responded fairly positively to the suggestions in the consultation literature: it is diffi cult to argue against the over-riding priorities of Sustainable Environment, Dynamic Region, Connected Communities, Brighter Futures and Fulfi lled Lives. We have made numerous suggestions as to how a Local Plan could address these, but as many of the individual aims are outside the scope of a Local Plan it is critically important that any new policies do not inhibit the work of other service units within the Council. Our submission focuses on what we see as key priorities, for example;
1. the need to protect and enhance the local environment, both natural and built, and possible policy areas that could assist.
2. the creation of a design code, which could help reduce carbon footprints through the building process.
3. tackling car parking and traffi c congestion with an emphasis upon alternative transport systems, including provision of more electric charging points.
4. ensuring the provision of housing addresses the need to ensure an appropriate variety of dwelling types to enable a sustainable demographic within and across local communities.
We intend to publish our response in full on our website in due course.
Progress on our masterplan for the central area of Broadstone has slipped somewhat, but hopefully we can get back on track following a recent preliminary meeting with a Highways offi cer. In addition, discussions with the Council’s senior Strategic Planning offi cer have resulted in the designation of a support offi cer who will be able to help us to schedule our own review programme, while also moving forward with our other work. We have also established that we are eligible to apply for a further grant to fund this activity. Our application has been submitted and we are hopeful that it will be successful.
We are also currently involved in discussions with a resident who is working on a potential bid for a grant from our Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) fund. The opportunity is there for other groups to bid for funding small-scale schemes that will contribute to the enhancement of the Broadway. Expressions of interest can be made by email to:
broadstoneneighbourhood@gmail.com and we will send an application form together with the relevant guidelines for completion.
Our next major public event will be the Annual General Meeting towards the end of March. Details will be published in the January and February updates. In the meantime, may we wish you all an enjoyable Christmas and a healthy New Year.
