Poole Athletic Club
Two GB reps in Multi-Sports: Pride of place to Ryan Symington, the latest of our versatile athletes preparing for Modern Pentathlon. In October he travelled to Malta to compete for GB in the Triathlon Super League. This featured ‘Enduro’ races in which all the competitors do two consecutive triathlons, i.e. swim-bike-run-swim- bike-run! He fi nished his u18 race with a bronze medal, against 15 athletes from fi ve other European countries!
A week later, in Florida, Zac Cloete also competed for GB, this time in the World Biathle Championships – a junior version of Biathlon involving swim-run. He and his team-mate in the u17 Mixed Relay fi nished sixth of the eight pairs. Well done to both lads.
Launching into Dorset Sportshall: This annual competition is organised by Team Dorset Athletics Network and is largely aimed at u11s and u13s. The Sportshall skills include shuttle runs using angled reversaboards, obstacle relay (with tunnels and hurdles), with other events testing agility, balance, accuracy, and a variety of jumps and throws! They all add up to a fun competition but a serious preparation for the outdoor events in the summer.
In Match 1 our u11 girls won with other PAC teams third. Individual winners included Elouan B, Caleb C, Natasha P, Seni P, Beatrice H, Jonty S, Olivia B and Jaya C. A number of them won again in the reduced numbers
of Match 2, joined by Oliver H and Mahlia-Pia J. The remarkable achievement of the u11B and u13B came in ranking third with just two athletes each!
Cross-Country fi xtures: At the Southern Cross- Country Relays at Wormwood Scrubs in London, twenty PAC juniors competed in teams of three, each runner completing a 2km leg. Of our teams, the best were the u15B, ranking 5th (of 38 teams); William R with 6-42 had one of the fastest times of the day, ably supported by Mark R (6-54) and Tristan G (7-15). Lexie B and Emily P also featured with fast times.
We have also contested Wessex Match 2 and Hampshire Match 2. Both were rain- affected with heavy courses. Lexie B won her u13G race in both, and Emily P and Mark R again led their teams with excellent runs. (Image: Lexie Brown)
Other news: The 3rd Bournemouth Scouts fi nished 10/24 in the annual
Moslem Scouts “Olympics” at Lee Valley Stadium in London. We look forward to welcoming local Olympian Liz Yelling to our Junior Awards Evening in December.
