Girlguiding Fearless Fun
It was very much a weekend of two halves, weather-wise, when members of 3rd and 4th Broadstone Guides joined 600 Brownies, Guides and their leaders for a weekend of “Fearless Fun” at Foxlease, Girlguiding’s training and activity centre in Lyndhurst.
Having pitched the tents and enjoyed an evening meal of chicken curry, the girls took part in a large game of capture
the fl ag in the dark on Friday evening.
Saturday
was split into various sessions. The Broadstone Guides started the day in the craft zone where they made hedgehogs from old books. This was followed by a choice of teamwork activities or archery. After lunch, most of the group chose to go swimming, whilst some went kayaking. In the science zone next, the girls made lava lamps, coffee or lemon scrubs and handwarmers. The end of the afternoon was spent on the traverse wall, where they raced to see how quickly they could get round and played sharks. After an evening meal of pasta and meatballs, everyone joined together for a campfi re, singing songs old and new.
After thunder and lightening overnight, the group woke up to a damp Sunday morning and had a choice of abseiling, tree climbing, trapeze or high board.
Fortunately they then had the opportunity to dry out a bit in the chillout zone, where they watched a fi lm. Finally they had the chance to build a large catapult out of poles or build a shelter before lunch after which tents were taken down and the group departed.
