For the cheese connoisseur, Di Bruno Bros. offers a special After Hours evening at either their Franklin or 9th Street location, which will remain open after hours for a private tasting and shopping experience. In addition to artisan cheeses, gourmet charcuterie and antipasti, Di Bruno’s cheesemongers will whip up select concoctions not available elsewhere while regaling attendees with facts and tales of life behind the cheese counter. BYOB is welcome.
Gran Café L’Aquila has become one of most creative and authentic top dining destinations in the area, as they change up menus and selections weekly while highlighting various regions around Italy. Groups from 10 to 200 can book Italian Aperitivo Happy Hours, Italian Butlered Tapas Events, regional wine dinners or gelato tastings.
One of the largest restaurant venues, The Moshulu on Penn’s Landing has totally transformed the vessel’s interior/exterior spaces into a spectacular new experience, keeping the Fearless Restaurants service and dining among the best.
Conventions
In 2019, Philadelphia and the Pennsylvania Convention Center once again demonstrated both aptitude and resourcefulness in executing large-scale meetings, conventions and events. Many of the major groups and events visiting Philadelphia this year were repeat customers who have held suc- cessful events in the past -a testament to hard work and long-term rela- tionships cultivated by the PHLCVB and the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
Returning to the city this year were LIGHTFAIR International, the BIO Inter- national Convention, the International Society for Technology in Education, and the 120th Army-Navy Game.
Part of the formula for bringing in more meetings and conventions to the city come out of the PHLCVB’s business development divisions, which are tasked with supporting three key market segments: PHL Diversity, PHL Life Sciences, and PHL Sports.

PHL Diversity, a first-of-its-kind division for a destination marketing organi- zation, hosted the 2019 Diversity and Inclusion Conference at the Ritz Carlton in Philadelphia. In a partnership with Temple University’s School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management and Lodging Media, the two- day conference brought national thought leaders to the city to discuss the direction of corporate social responsibility and minority-owned business leadership. In addition, PHL Diversity played an important role in PHLCVB’s efforts to secure several high-profile groups for Philadelphia in 2019, such as Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc.’s Grand Chapter Meeting.
The PHLCVB is the country’s only DMO with a dedicated life sciences business development division, which is anchored by the American Acad- emy of Neurology’s Annual Meeting (May 4-10), BIO, the American Heart Association’s “Scientific Sessions,” and the Pittsburgh Conference on Ana- lytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy.
PHL Sports, responsible for promoting Philadelphia as a national sporting event destination, partnered with Drexel University and the Philadelphia Eagles to host the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championships during Memorial Day Weekend at Lincoln Financial Field. Attendance over the three-day tournament was 83,000.
The 2019 sports calendar also included the NHL Stadium Series, the She- Believes Cup, the U.S. Women’s National Team Victory Tour (soccer), NEQ Volleyball, and the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals (men’s soccer).
