Delco also has a unique “ace in the hole” for grow- ing team building events: Xscape-the-Room owner Rosemary Fox has a popular venue in Media where teams race the clock to solve exciting mysteries. But she also can custom design off-site team-based puzzle solving programs to meet the specific needs and goals of companies and event planners.

“Our hospitality scene is surging because Delco is a fun and affordable option for hosting all types of events,” asserted Bryne, adding that Visit Delco, PA recently filled their director of meetings and events position with Lou Marrocco, CMP, a highly respected event planner who, in addition to running his own national events firm, also has served on the board of MPI.

“I’ve lived and worked in Delco for more than a decade,” Marrocco revealed, “so I’m very excited to join this team to help promote and grow the county’s meetings business. I’ll be working closely with our hotels and conference centers, and will seek out and support meeting planners inter- ested in holding events here in the future.”

The area’s only Topgolf Swing Suite is at Harrah’s Philadelphia in Chester, PA

Delaware County’s hospitality scene has been expanding at an unprecedented rate for almost a decade, and the growth continued this year as the county added 4 new hotels, numerous restaurants, and in the county seat town of Media, a new B&B is scheduled to open before year’s end. There are new music venues, too, and even as Delco adds 3-5 new hotels each year, hotel occupancy remains second only to Philadelphia.

Drexelbrook Special Event Center recently opened its new Franklin Conference Center, transforming existing space into three breakout rooms and a large boardroom seating up to 28 guests. All rooms have full audio-visual capability with high-speed Internet access, LED projectors, sound and full wall screens. In addition, Drexelbrook added the Franklin Café. The property can host meet- ings and events from 8 up to 1,200 guests in various settings.

Also newly opened is the Holiday Inn and Suites Philadelphia West at Drexelbrook. This new hotel has helped to expand Drexelbrook's corporate market and provides a quiet setting for leisure travelers. The new hotel boasts many amenities. Also on the property is Street Light Bar and Grill, which serves regional American cuisine.

Two Home2 Suites hotels just opened in Essington and Glen Mills, where an influx of new hotels and a thriving Town Center have ignited the popularity of restaurants like Byrsa Bistro, which features authentic western Mediterranean food with French, Greek, and Moroccan influences. Located in a Victorian House and Train Station, the décor, gardens, and food serve up an unforget- table experience.

The former Clarion Hotel in Glen Mills has just undergone a massive renova- tion, rebranding as the new Comfort Inn and Suites Glen Mills-Philadelphia. The property also features a new restaurant, GG Italian, which is getting rave reviews. Named for Chef Phillip’s daughter, GG, he wanted to infuse her zest for life into a menu bursting with treasured, old-family recipes.

In Newtown Square, owners of the current Hilton Garden Inn at the Shops of Ellis Preserve, are planning a second hotel and possibly a conference center that could open in late 2020.

Villanova University and Greg Dodge of Zavino Hospitality Group (ZHG) recently opened The Refectory, a sophisticated-yet-casual restaurant and grill on the University’s campus. Inspired by the region’s great steakhouses, The Refectory is an approachable American bar and grill that is open to the University com- munity and public alike. It features a comprehensive menu of elevated classics seven days a week, bringing timeless favorites and warm hospitality as the University’s first full-service, on-campus restaurant.

The Refectory is located within The Commons, a $225 million residence hall community that opened in late summer. Villanova University’s new state-of- the-art Performing Arts Center, slated to open in early 2020, will be located across from The Refectory.

Reserve a bay at Harrah's Philadelphia for the area's only Topgolf Swing Suite, a new interactive sports and social gaming lounge outfitted with high-tech simulator bays. A variety of different virtual games, including the popular Top- golf target game, Baseball Pitching, Quarterback Challenge, Carnival Classic, and Zombie Dodgeball are available.
