A Lotta Bottle P

GLASS IS THE ECO CHOICE...

lumbs’ Dairy, a local milk delivery service in Cambridgeshire, has

revealed they sold 2,239,479 pints of milk in glass bottles to their customers in 2018. While it may be hard to imagine what 2,239,479 pints of milk in glass bottles looks like, it’s the equivalent of 5,302 black wheelie bins. The Dairy has always

delivered milk in glass bottles since it began doing local rounds in 1952. With plastic pollution taking centre stage, they’ve seen a dramatic increase in the number of customers switching from plastic bottles to glass milk bottles.

Commenting on the

incredible number of glass bottles of milk sold, company owner Justin Plumb said: “It’s wonderful to support people in making a conscious choice to reduce their consumption

of single-use plastics. It’s such a small change but makes such a big impact on our environment.” In 2018, the government created the plastics pact alongside the Waste and

Resources Action Programme (WRAP), which pledged to make plastic packaging 100% recyclable or reusable by

2025. However, as the current capacity for recycling plastic is extremely limited, with 39 diff erent plastic recycling rules across the UK, many

people have taken their plastic footprint into their own hands and begun to make the decision to ditch plastic. CPL, a Cambridge content marketing agency, made the

switch in February 2019. “We’re always looking for ways to become a more environmentally conscious company,” said Ewa Wrona,
