A LOCAL FLORIST WANTS TO MAKE YOUR HEART SING… C


laire Mead has built a career on making people feel better.


Whether it was in her job, encouraging people to stop smoking, lose weight and live more healthily, or, whether on stage with some memorable thigh-slapping, comedic performances on local ‘am dram’ stages.


Now she has launched,


arguably, her biggest production to date, with the launch of Lily Em, her own business that simply sets out to offer flowers and gifts to make your heart sing. Lily Em is a personalised


bespoke service for gift bouquets, sympathy tributes, wedding flowers and special event arrangements as well as giftware including beautiful home, candles and vintage finery. “A few years ago I knew that I had a deep desire to do ‘something different’ and as much as I loved my previous job I knew it would be refreshing to have a career change,” explains Claire. “So I started taking floristry courses in Cambridge and further afield.


“I have spent so much time


following different floristry ‘icons’ on social media and love watching the trends come and go. “The good thing also about doing lots of courses is that you gradually build up a network of fellow flower fairies which makes big scale events less daunting,” she adds. Claire started at home with a couple of ‘gift sales’ while

raising money for charity. It was an ideal stage for learning what people liked and to be guided by supportive family and friends. That first event, saw Claire sell 35 door wreaths and find the confidence to officially launch Lily Em.
