VILLAGE COLLEGE SCENE
News | Fenscene Focus On Student Work Experience
Work experience at Witchford Village College is an ongoing inclusive programme, providing opportunities for students right across their fi ve years at the school.
This can take the form of
workshops and talks in college or more tailored small group visits to local companies and individual guidance meetings. It is all about letting students know what is out there for them and raising their aspirations. Two keen fi lm studies students recently spent the day at Cambridge-based Audio Analytic, who work on software to empower machines with a sense of sound. They invited students to attend as the BBC Click production team was interviewing the CEO of Audio Analytic and fi lming the technicalities of how they capture sound. Creating Careers
A creative careers trip to Cambridge Junction for Year 10 music students took place recently. Students took part in song writing, lighting and sound workshops, toured the venue (including walking on the tension wire grid for the rigging) and got the chance to interview staff about their work. It gave them all an insight into the career diversity within an organisation. Keen scientists took part in the STEMtastic event hosted by JDR Cables in Littleport. This event engaged with local schools to assist in delivering STEM education and enabling progression pathways into STEM careers. The students experienced hands on activities which will support and enrich work already carried out in schools. As a bonus, they came away as the winners
thoroughly enjoyed watching the BBC fi lming process. The Creative Director from
production company Orillo, visited and spoke to Year 9 and 10 fi lm students. He told them about his journey and opportunities in the fi lm and documentary industry, showing examples of his company’s work.

of an in-house competition, against Neale Wade and Cromwell schools. Over the summer, two of the students took part in work placements at local architects and at vets. Feedback was very positive and both students felt it was an invaluable experience, which will help
them make informed career choices. Key Stage 4 Progress and Pathways evening recently took place. It was a chance for Year 9-11 students and their parents to come for a drop in. Throughout the evening representatives from Post 16 centres in WVC’s catchment area and companies with apprenticeship schemes, were available to discuss future pathways with students and parents. An apprenticeship presentation by Form the Future was also running throughout the evening with the intention of giving the most up to date information. Information has been sent out to students about their Work Experience Programme 2019/2020 and there is more in the pipeline. WVC is always keen to hear from any local businesses who can assist in anyway. Please contact Careers Manager Juliet Martin,
