A French 1871 Dragoon Officer’s Helmet in its Original Case. A most magnificent example of a French Dragoon officers helmet. Bright undamaged skull with all gilded fittings bright, with its full length horsehair plume. Untouched internal lining with its short red feather plume, the base of the plume known as the olive, which is situated in its own original cardboard container. All fitted into its own fitted case, which is suede lined to the interior. The exterior imitation leather covering missing in places, complete with its carrying handle, good condition

A French Dragoon Helmet c. 1860-1900, the white metal skull with gilt metal fittings original black horse hair crest push in cut red feather plume graduated chin scales the side retaining points are replacements, original leather sweat band; together with a theatrical sabretache featuring a rampant lion on a blue cloth ground with gold lace border, on the helmet the ‘shaving brush’ plume from the top crest missing the side feather plume worn and the leather lining fractured and part perished the skull with two minor dents (2)
