Corfe Mullen Carnival News
In October the Carnival Committee considered eight applications wishing to be considered as benefi ciaries of Carnival 2020.
By the end of the assessment, it was decided that the principal good causes for 2020 will be:
• Corfe Mullen (Wednesday) Luncheon Club • Stay and Play group for pre-school children with special needs
• Lytchett Riding for the Disabled group Carnival Christmas tree
Three years ago the Carnival Committee sent a message to the community asking them to suggest various new ways in which the Carnival Committee could support community projects.
One suggestion was to provide a Christmas tree and lights, to help to bring a little festive cheer to the village during the Christmas period.
Members of the Carnival Committee have been working on the project for the past 18 months and, with the support of the Parish Council and local businesses, we are pleased to announce that a 15ft Christmas tree will be erected on the land adjacent to the Windgreen roundabout, from the end of November.
Carnival Chairman David Mills commented that providing the Christmas tree this year would be the fi rst phase of a three-year plan to introduce festive lighting in the key commercial areas within our village. There has been an enthusiastic and positive response from the business community within the village to support the fundraising exercise for this project. Special thanks go to the Parish Council for their assistance in providing the infrastructure support required for the scheme.
The Carnival Committee will be organising a small ceremony at the end of November to mark the turning on of the lights, which will provide Christmas cheer until early January.
