Dorset Council Report

Remembrance Sunday: As we enter November, I would like to encourage residents to come and support the Remembrance Sunday Parade, held in the afternoon. Weather permitting, the parade assembles in Central Avenue at 2pm and at 2.15pm marches on to St Nicholas Church. After the Remembrance Service, the Parade re-assembles at 3.15pm, marches on to the cemetery and up to lay wreaths at the War Memorial, where the Last Post is also played. I will be laying a wreath on behalf of Dorset Council.

Girls Football in Barcelona: Earlier in the year, as an East Dorset District Councillor, I was able to assist the Corfe Mullen Girls U13 football team to purchase new kit (pictured), in readiness

for an International Championship they took part in this Autumn. The squad went to Barcelona during the school half term. I wish them continued success.

Eco-Awards: Dorset Council has been celebrating success as its efforts to care for the environment and fi ght climate change have been recognised by several organisations. Waste management and vehicle emissions are two of the most important areas of

work the Council is focusing on. The Local Authority Recycling Carbon Index measures the environmental performance of councils’ recycling services. The latest Carbon Index saw the Dorset Waste Partnership – Dorset Council’s waste services – return to fi rst place in the list of over 120 English local authorities with 108CO2e – which works out as the equivalent of 108 kilograms of carbon dioxide saved per Dorset resident. In addition to this fantastic achievement, Dorset Council’s Recycling Team recently won Best Team of the Year at the national Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee (LARAC) Conference Celebration Awards 2019. The award was in recognition of the team’s contribution to raising and maintaining the Council’s kerbside recycling rate, which is one of the highest in the country. This has generated savings of over £90,000 in the past year alone. Finally, Dorset featured in the Top 20 local authorities recognised by Friends of the Earth for its performance in mitigating climate change through eco-friendly working and sustainable initiatives.
