‘OUR INFLATABLES DAY HELPS INTRODUCE NEW FAMILIES TO THE SCHOOL’

eve always had inflatales at our summer air, ut the children love them so much we decided to have a whole event dedicated to them. ur ounce day has een running or quite a ew years and takes place in eptemer. Its an eciting introduction to the school and the  or new pupils and amilies. s the inflatales company

around the school, in aceook groups and class hatspp groups. he event was held rom pm

on a aturday aternoon in the school hall. e didnt sell tickets, ut asked or a voluntary donation on the door. o oost profits, we ran a sweet shop in the interval and also sold drinks, popcorn, marshmallows and crisps. It worked really well, and there

was lots o cheering and clapping rom the strong audience. ach perormance was a maimum o two minutes, which allowed or a good pace. e mied up the acts, alternating them so that there was dancing ollowed y music ollowed y comedy, rather than similar things one ater the other. ane rown, my amaing co

organiser, is the schools piano teacher and acked the children who wanted live accompaniment. oth years we have invited ack ormer pupils who have gone onto secondary school and developed their musical skills to open the show and inspire our pupils. he first year we had an amaing singer, and this year a violinist. ur last show raised  and

gave the children an opportunity to shine doing something they enoy. Its een amaing to see ust how much talent we have. he emphasis is on having a go and having eautiul, creative acts rather than perectly polished perormances. Jenny Rimmer, PTA chair, St Michael’s CofE VA Primary School, Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire (233 pupils)

delivers, sets up and dismantles the inflatales on our school field, its a ig event that doesnt require much preparation. he inflatales company we use, hils aradise, oten gets ooked up very early, so we ook around eight months in advance. e pay a set amount upront, and the profits are split  to us and  to the company. ach child uys a wristand on the

door or . anning the entrance desk is the main work or the , and we also have a rereshments stall to make etra profit. e sell hot dogs, sweets, crisps, cakes, sot drinks and ice lollies. e also oer acepainting and

gokarting or an additional . rucially, we have to provide enough parent and teacher volunteers to supervise the inflatales and ensure all participants are sae. ll volunteers are oered a drink and snack voucher as a thank you. e have around  dierent

inflatales on oer, with something suitale or all ages etween two and . e stipulate on promotional posters that all children must e accompanied y an adult so theres a good supervisortochild ratio. ypically, over  children attend

the twohour event. It certainly isnt our iggest undraiser o the year, ut the children love it and it is relatively easy to plan and run compared to a summer air. his event works very well or us and the children really enoy it. Joanne Kitching, donations secretary, Friends of Benhurst Primary School, Hornchurch, Essex (420 pupils)
