Resources – Workshops and experiences

Free of charge

Sports for Schools This social enterprise brings the country’s

top athletes into primary schools to inspire children to be more active. The workshop is typically a half-day event, where the athlete runs a fun fitness circuit and delivers an inspirational assembly. To date, the scheme has reached two million children and helped schools raise £3million for new sports equipment through an initiative that sees a percentage of money raised returned to the school. sportsforschools.org

A-life A-life has educated and inspired around

a million children to be active and healthy through its interactive health workshops and fitness sessions for primary schools. The workshops educate children about about how to stay healthy and form good habits in a fun, child-friendly way. The hands-on, multi-sensory activities are accessible to all and have been carefully designed to meet and expand upon many objectives in the science, PE and PSHE curriculums. a-life.co.uk

Hoop Guy The Hoop Guy (a semi-finalist on Britain’s

Got Talent) has been providing hula- hooping workshops for primary schools across the UK since 2009. Following a talk and demonstration for the whole school, he holds multiple one-hour workshops throughout the day, for 30 to 60 children per session. Hula-hooping is a great way to improve fitness and health, inspire teamwork and social play, and is a good source of aerobic exercise, burning about 400 calories per hour. hoopguy.com

Yoga at School Michael Chissick from Yoga at School has

been teaching yoga to children in primary and special schools for nearly two decades in Hertfordshire, East London and Essex. He also trains staff to deliver yoga as part of the PE/PSHE curriculum. The easy-to-learn postures can be taught by staff with no previous experience. The inclusive approach means children of all abilities can participate, from EYFS to KS2 in primary schools, and up to KS4 in special schools. yogaatschool.org.uk
