‘WE LET OUR PUPILS SHINE WITH A TALENT SHOW’
‘The idea for running a talent show came from when I was teaching in London. My school at that time had a long-standing head who was retiring, prompting staff, parents and children to put on a farewell show. It was a great send-off and really united the school community. This story inspired our PTA to hold “St Michael’s Got Talent”, now in its second year. The show took three weeks to plan. In the
first week, we sent out application orms to all children in book bags, with an entry deadline of one week. We accepted and actively welcomed all acts – anyone could perform, which was really important. The next two weeks were spent
rehearsing, with each act attending two rehearsals. We had dancers, musicians, comedians and singers, with children from nursery through to Year 6 participating. During rehearsals we only gave basic performance suggestions. It worked well because it was child-led and there were no adults telling them what to do! We promoted the show by placing posters
