The UPBEAT Café

by Paul Andrew Doyle, Founder, Owner, Publisher & Chief delivery guy ~ paul@upbeattimes.com • 707-494-1767

Sonoma County, CA. ~ It's not too often a person gets positive letters about their business. I realized this as I received more than I ever had before in the 21 years I've been publishing the Upbeat Times, all in a period of a month. People who have never heard of the paper as well as people who have been reading the pa- per for years said kind words. I once again thank all of you

who have taken the time to pick us up wherever you are in Sonoma County and be- yond!

Several years back, and,

I think I wrote about it, someone found one while waiting for a flight to China at the San Francisco International Air- port. They were from Sonoma County and had been a reader for quite some time. There, on a stand was our paper. It turns out they brought it to China and held it up, letting us know they were having an UPBEAT time! The more we have chal-

lenges in life, the more we need to challenge them back with positive re-enforcement. I have a little personal thing

I like to do when I see some- one that looks like they're having a challenging day, like throwing a bad pun at them. I check for their name tag also, saying, "Hi Gail. How's your day going?" they look around and say, "How did you know my name?" 'Your name tag',

tory come to “Step back into history” at the museum. my of- fice preparing for the next paper I'm preparing for another

project. I'm in contact with people everywhere I go. I love to talk with people and learn from them. I had a great chance to meet

with an old acquaintance named Joe Messina, who is a welder. He's very talented at it too. I always wanted to learn to weld I told him, and he gra- ciously said, "I'll teach you!", so I took my first lesson! As an artist, I've worked with

so many mediums of art, but I've never welded. Turns out, my friend is also involved in a 105 year old working mill, lo- cated between Sebastopol and Occidental, California. They hold 4 events a year in May,

The police officer got out of his car as the kid who was stopped for speeding rolled down his window. 'I've been waiting for you all day,' the officer said.

The kid replied, Yeah, well I got here as fast as I could.'

When the cop finally stopped laughing, he sent the kid on his way without a ticket.
