Welcome

Welcome to a packed April issue where we anticipate the forthcoming season with great excitement and with all fingers crossed for prolonged good weather for the warmer months ahead.

An exceptionally mild February and a later than usual Easter this year; like the ice cream sellers, we need a spell of sunshine to get the customers through the shops and showrooms and signing on the dotted line of the contract. Before the season takes off, we invite you to take time out to savour your April issue. We invite you to make a note of what other companies are doing to boost business and build those ideas into your own business plan. Watch out for companies like Barr and Wray, Cannings H20, Eagle Leisure, HTP, Opulent Pools, Oyster Pool & Leisure, Tanby Pools and Portrait Pools – all featured inside this issue.

While every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the content printed in Hot Tub & Swim Spa Scene, we welcome your feedback. Any errors that warrant correction or clarification will be quickly dealt with. Please email your feedback to: info@thewaterlandgroup.com

Don’t miss the potential to boost your ambitions via Astral UK who are ready, willing and able to become extended members of your pool building team. We also urge you to check that you are claiming all potential research and design tax benefits. Read all about it, inside this issue and contact the specialist Leyton team to find out more. We dedicate the April issue of Swimming Pool Scene to Golden Coast, whose team put so much time and energy into the annual Wet Leisure Survey. Find out this year’s facts and figures, inside this issue, and see how they could influence your business strategy and development plans. Take Care!

But we have to question its long term potential. A sector persistently impacted by decreasing numbers of new pool builds is inevitably, a swimming pool of ever-decreasing circles. Food for thought.

Take Care and Keep in Touch! CHRISTINA CONNOR | Editor

The HMRC has issued letters to VAT-registered businesse,s trading with the EU, explaining how to prepare for changes to customs, excise and VAT if the UK leaves the EU without a deal. The letter was clearly written by someone playing darts blindfold. The author is understandably unsure of what may happen, what could occur and even where the dartboard might be positioned!

We are living in uncertain times. Businesses need to be braced for all eventualities it seems. We head to key European exhibitions and meetings with an air of bewilderment and embarrassment I fear.

But let’s be reasonable. Like the proverbial babies and the bath water, long term business partners are not going to pull the plug because of Brexit.

Britannia-like, our pool and spa companies will ride the tide of business waves with integrity, hard work and determination. We will undoubtedly continue to strive and thrive.

A co-incidence maybe, that your October edition of Swimming Pool Scene focuses on the refurbishment market. A market, a bit like Europe, that promises so much but should also come with a government health warning.

This is a sector a growing percentage of companies rely upon, especially to sustain cash flow in the winter months. In the short term, the refurbishment market remains bouyant with strong sales messages of improved energy efficiency, cost savings and chemical reductions.

ABOVE: Welcome to your action-packed April edition of Swimming Pool Scene, always an unmissable read for the combined water leisure sectors.

Our front cover image features Sophie Pascoe, a Speedo-sponsored Paralympic swimmer. Read more inside this issue.
