HONOURS AWAIT ISPE AWARD WINNERS T


his month’s ISPE seminar will include the presentation of the annual ISPE Awards. The Institute


has a number of awards, some of which are presented annually and others more occasionally. The 2019 awards will include:


THE GARTSIDE CUP FOR STUDENT OF THE YEAR - Donated to the Institute by Joe


Gartside in 1983. This is awarded to the student who achieves the highest overall result in their ISPE exams. Without giving any secrets away, for 2019 this will be shared between two students and each will have their own replica to keep.


THE JIM JOHNSON FILTRATION SHIELD – Donated to the Institute by former


ISPE President Jim Johnson on his retirement. This may be given for an excellent exam paper in the subject of Filtration or for a technical paper on that subject. This year a student will receive it for an excellent Filtration exam paper scoring a very impressive 95%.

THE JOHN ASHER CUP - Donated to the Institute by former


ISPE President and long-time Honorary Treasurer, John Asher, on his retirement from the ISPE Council. This may be awarded for an excellent Construction exam paper and there will be a winner in 2019, someone who scored an impressive 86%. In addition, all successful ISPE


students who passed their exams in 2019 are invited to collect their ISPE Technician Certificates, and ISPE look forward to a great afternoon of celebration.

filtration workshop takes place in November.


• Foster a professional approach to the design, installation and maintenance of swimming pools, enclosures and all ancillary equipment.


• Give recognition to technical skill and ability


• Engage in the education and training of persons within all sectors of the swimming pool industry


• Promote unrestricted co-operation and liaison between all persons actively involved in the industry and its allied professions and trades


• Provide opportunities for association and interchange of thought and experience amongst the members and their colleagues.


Don’t forget the ‘Hands-on’ ISPE Filtration workshop, which will take place


at Plastipack’s premises at St. Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex, on Tuesday 5th November. This is an excellent day for those new to the trade or for more experienced fitters.
