HALESWORTH SCARECROW FESTIVAL 10th ANNIVERSARY
AFTER a long summer, we are sliding gently in to autumn, and that means one thing - the return of the Halesworth Scarecrow Festival and Treasure Trail at half-term. This year is its 10th Anniversary, so we’re hoping for a bumper display.
The
event will run from Saturday 19th October to Saturday 26th October.
Last year saw an amazing cavalcade of scarecrows around the town – your creativity never ceases to astound us. So, please can we do it again this year?

All monies raised from the Treasure Trail will go towards the Christmas lights, which cost over £8,000 a year to put on.
Entry forms for the Treasure
Trail competition will cost £1 and be available from Edwards Restaurant and Halesworth Library. This year the theme is traditional fairy tales. Once again, the winner of the competition will have the chance to switch on the Halesworth Christmas Lights on Saturday, 23rd November, and there will be a cash prize for the winner and the runners- up. We are also running a second trail which uses the free what3words app to give you clues to the location of ‘golden pumpkins’.

Sing for Water London
September 14th-15th ON a beautiful Indian summer’s day, on the south bank of the River Thames in London, dozens of choirs from around the country congregated to sing their hearts out for the 2019 Sing for Water London event run by Totally Thames Festival in aid of WaterAid projects in Malawi. As part of Sing for Water, singers and choirs learn music and songs separately and then come together for one big performance.
Rearrange the letters on the pumpkin and you’ll have the name of a classic children’s book. This trail will also have cash prizes. Radio Suffolk has been a great supporter of the event and we’re still hoping to
attract a fi lm crew to come along and see your amazing handiwork. If anyone has any contacts – please use your infl uence
Nine members of the Halesworth Community Choir travelled down to London on Saturday morning to meet up with the other choirs taking part for a three-hour rehearsal. The group was taken expertly through its musical paces by two talented and highly enthusiastic conductors, Roxane Smith and Katie Rose, with assistance from Chris Samuel, Sophia Efthimiou and Jamie Dawes- Hughes.
On Sunday morning - another glorious day - the choirs congregated again for a run through of the repertoire at the performance venue, The Scoop. People dispersed for a break and then fi nally, after lunch, came our ‘big moment’. Voices soared into the air, and it all fl owed ery well. aing an audience got the adrenalin
kicking in and this evidently helped everyone to ‘up’ their game. As well as the songs the choirs performed, there were a couple of musical numbers by professional singers and performers and a short talk by Sing for Water founder, Helen Chadwick, who made a powerful point by impressing upon us the importance of having clean drinking water - she swigged a nasty-looking brown liquid from a bottle of ‘water’ from Ghana. We believe in the region of 600 people took part, including some without previous singing.
experience of The amount of
money raised is expected to exceed the £20,000 raised last year. Everyone agreed it was a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was amazing, and it was a real privilege to sing by the Thames surrounded by some of London’s most iconic buildings and landmarks, plus we were blessed by fabulous weather. Most importantly, it was all for a very good cause – over the last 15
years,
Sing for Water events have raised over £1 million for WaterAid projects, reaching some of the world's poorest communities with safe water, taps and toilets.
