Local Martial Art club leads the way with new Safeguarding Code
THANK you to those residents that came out on the evening of September 12th to the Forum meeting despite other interesting activities taking place
evening!
in Halesworth that The Council put
forward their 4-year plan for the
town. The plan highlights Those residents
who attended raised pertinent issues and questions regarding the plan.
the key strategic areas that the Town Council will concentrate on for the next four years and this will be widely available shortly. County Councillor Goldson was in attendance and fi elded residents’ questions on Highways, health and other County matters.
The Skateboard facility in
the Town Park has recently been repaired and is now safe to use. The current Skateboard Park is now getting old and at some point the Council will need to make a decision about a new Skateboard Park or
carrying out extensive repairs. The Council would welcome any input from users of the Skateboard Park and/or their parents to look at options to improve the facilities or to look at options for a new facility. The footbridge between River Lane and the Park is starting to deteriorate and this has been reported to Suffolk County Council Highways, repair work will involve replacing some of the boards that are wearing out.
The
Town Council is also aware that the handwashing facilities in the public toilets in the Park have often been out of service. We have addressed this with Waveney Norse and the current washing facilities will either be repaired or replaced shortly. There is a volunteer fair in the library as part of Suffolk Action Week on October 1st between 10.30am and 2pm. Find out how to volunteer locally, for example, working
with the Volunteer Centre, Library, Millennium Green or one of the other groups that make our town unique. At the recent forum meeting a resident asked about the Community Speedwatch programme, this is an initiative to get volunteers involved with recording speeding vehicles using a radar gun. In the past the Town Council has asked for volunteers for this project but received very little interest. Currently the Town Council shares the
VAS (Vehicle
Activated Speed) signs with our local parishes and these are put in place on a rota system in various locations in the town to help calm traffi c speeds. If there is any renewed interest in Community Speedwatch could residents please get in touch with the Clerk on 01986 874517 or by email clerk@

LOCAL Kuk Sool Won club in Halesworth is leading the way in sports safeguarding, having successfully attained the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts.
Achieving the Safeguarding
Code, demonstrates the Club’s commitment to upholding its duty-of-care to the community and young people and recognises the Halesworth Club as a martial arts provider that has reached and effectively maintained good safeguarding standards. The Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts has been created so that parents and carers can clearly identify a
martial arts provider that have demonstrated that they have reached and maintained good safeguarding standards and can make informed decisions when selecting a club for their child. Sue Harrison, Stakeholder Marketing at the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts said: “When making choices about martial arts schools, parents and carers can easily determine, and be reassured that clubs in their local area are committed to safeguarding and upholding safe practices for their children if they display the Safeguarding Code ‘mark’.” Charlotta Trimby,
