MAYFLOWER WEEK CHARTERS

In a re-enactment of the arrival of the Mayflower and Speedwell, the Matthew Cabot replica ship Mat- thew of Bristol acting as the May- flower and the Brixham Trawler Pil- grim acting as the Speedwell will arrive in Dartmouth on Sunday 30 August and launch the Dartmouth Mayflower 400 week. They will then lead a RIVER PAGEANT in a procession up the River to Noss on Dart Marina and back. Both vessels will be available for

charter for either private or corpo- rate use during Mayflower Week (30 August to 5 September 2020). They will have moorings in the river during the day, and be along- side the Town Jetty each evening. They can either be chartered for a fully crewed day at sea or for day-time or evening receptions,

when a choice of catering options will be available. Also available for charter on a similar basis during Mayflower Week, and indeed throughout the summer of 2020, will be the Bristol Pilot Cutter Merlin of Falmouth. For further details of these charter opportunities, and to make a book- ing, please see our website. Grand River Pageant The Grand River Pageant, led by the Matthew of Bristol will take place on Sunday 30 August. It is expected that 60-70 classic vessels of all shapes and sizes will follow up the river from Dartmouth Castle to Noss on Dart Marina where the fleet will turn round and proceed back down the river. This is sure to be a most spec- tacular sight with music, costumes and flags flying.

Information on each vessel will be given by commentary and a souvenir brochure will be produced providing names a short description. Crews will be encouraged to wear appropriate costumes and provide appropriate musical accompaniment; prizes for the best-dressed crew and best-pre- sented vessel will be awarded. Bells will be rung from St Petrox church at the start of the Parade, including the ringing of the Special Peal of Bells written for Dartmouth Mayflower 400. Mayflower Week Events A variety of exciting events, both ashore and afloat on the River, are being planned for Mayflower Week. Please keep an eye on our website or sign up for our Newsletter for details of these as they are finalised. www.dartmouthmayflower400.uk

Candlelit Mayflower presents NIGHT OF 400 CANDLES

Saturday November 30th 6.30 pm Follow the lanterns ... to St Saviour ’s Church lit up with lan- terns & candles for a special Mayflower festive night … the bells will ring out, there will be music and song… steaming Mayflower soup with crusty bread plus a special grog!

On Saturday November 30th a grand Mayflower Lantern Ship will lead the Candlelit parade support- ed by smaller boats, made by the families and children in the many workshop opportunities leading up to the Candlelit Mayflow- er weekend. The Friday of that weekend will be as usual, with the festive market, the arrival of Father Christmas and the turning on of the lights. As Dartmouth is one of the Trail Towns involved in the National Mayflower 400 commemorations, who will all be holding similar illu-

minated events, we have been very fortunate to have our own Candlelit weekend to work alongside. Accompanying the Parade will be the Premier of the Dartmouth Mayflower Peal of Bells, written by our own John Langdon; this will be rung from St Saviour’s Church bell tower and families are invited to the tower during the evening to participate in the bell ringing experience. An augmented Parish Choir, led by Christopher Helyer and the church organ, will perform another Premier, which will be the

majestic Dartmouth Mayflower Anthem, with music written by Ed Welch and words by Brian Patten. This beautiful anthem will feature as a major part of our yearlong May- flower Commemoration. This will be an evening of celebra-

tion for all, so come into the light of St Saviour’s Church illuminated with 400 candles, where there will be festive music and song, and warm yourselves with our Mayflower soup with crusty bread and toast the beginning of the Dartmouth Mayflower’s commemoration.
