t is almost impossible to visit Valley View Café without taking some foodie goodies home to


enjoy later but especially so at this time of year when ‘next door’ is filling up with seasonal deli- ciousness, both home-made and from their carefully selected multi award winning local suppliers. ‘Next door’ is, of course, the other side of this family business comprising their renowned butchery department and the Aladdin’s Cave delicatessen with freshly baked pies, pasties and so much more, made on site using beef and lamb from their own farm and piggies from ‘the farm up the road’.


A place full of cookies and cheeses; artisan beers, ciders and local wines; fruit and vegetables picked so fresh and so near they arrive with the morning dew; chocolates and chutneys; crackers and fudge; cakes, coffee and condiments…. the list could go on forever. Much of what is sold to take away


is available at the Café and, why not, when the products are so good? Same kitchen, same fantastic ingredi- ents, same consistent quality… With glorious panoramic views

people), Valley View Café is an idyllic location in sunshine but don’t forget – it is open all year round so on dark dismal days when only a mug of rich hot chocolate plus a slice of gooey cake or a steaming bowl of home- made soup with warm bread will lift your spirits, this is where to head. On our visit my friend and I went

decidedly fishy – Jeannette opting for the Café’s home-made Fishcake, me for their Fish Finger Sandwich. A golden, crispy coating encased


lusciously smooth, creamy smoked salmon and haddock enlivened with spring onion in Jeannette’s enormous Fishcake, for which she had just one word – “Gorgeous”. Topped with crispy rashers of Aune Valley’s own bacon and served with a generous ‘swoosh’ of the Café’s own spiced mayo, the tastes and textures provided variety and interest whilst perfectly complementing each other. Usually served with dressed leaves,


Jeannette requested Valley View’s glorious rustic chips instead and, as always, received a ‘No problem’ response. Amy and her front of house team to whom nothing is too much trouble are simultaneously welcoming, warm and friendly whilst consummately professional. My Fish Finger Sandwich, an
