DARTMOUTH MAYFLOWER

Dartmouth is one of 11 Compact towns from the UK engaged in the Mayflower 400 project along with Leiden, Holland and Plymouth, US. For the full story visit our website www. dartmouthmayflower400.uk

DARTMOUTH MAYFLOWER 400 GRAND PAGEANT 2020

A Grand Pageant, principally sponsored by PREMIER MARINAS (owners of Noss on Dart marina) will take place on the River Dart during the afternoon of Sunday 30 August next year. The Pageant will officially start a week of other events commemorating the 400th

anniversary of the departure of the original

MAYFLOWER from these shores to cross the Atlantic. During the Dartmouth Mayflower 400 Week there will be many activities on the river, as well as arts and cultural events in the town.

Up to 70 classic and other ‘interesting’ vessels of all kinds (sail, motor, rowing) will be afloat and dressed overall for the Pageant and will parade in front of the general public. The MATTHEW OF BRISTOL, a replica of the ship sailed by John Cabot in 1497 from Bristol to North America, will represent the MAYFLOWER and lead the procession, followed by PILGRIM OF BRIXHAM, representing the SPEEDWELL.

Participants will start at the harbour mouth, proceed- ing up river on the King- swear side. They will turn round a temporary buoy laid north of Noss-on-Dart Marina and proceed back down on the Dartmouth side of the river, along the Embankment to finish at the Regatta finish line just up river of the lower ferry. A VIP will be present at the Finish line to ‘take the salute’. Crews are being invited to dress appropriately and prizes will be awarded to the best dressed crew, smartest boat etc.

There will be a continuous commentary, as well as a detailed illustrated souvenir brochure describing the craft taking part, and the event will be a spectacular sight to kick off a whole week of Dartmouth Mayflower 400 commemoration events.

CHARTER OPPORTUNITIES Private or Corporate

After the Grand Pageant, MATTHEW OF BRISTOL and PILGRIM OF BRIXHAM will be available during Mayflower Week, from 1-6 September, for day or evening charters. MATTHEW can take from 35-70 people, while PILGRIM can take between 25-40 people depending on whether you want to have a reception in the evening alongside the Town Jetty or go sailing for the day. Prices are from £1,000 per day and catering options are available depending on your requirements. You could stay in the river for the day watching the activities, sail out into Start Bay, or have a reception alongside the Town Jetty in the evening. It will be an ideal opportunity to entertain your business contacts and colleagues, or have an enjoyable day or evening for friends and family.

Andy Osman, General Manager at sponsors Noss on Dart Marina is looking forward to seeing Dartmouth’s rich history brought to life. “This is going to be a momentous day on the River Dart, we are immensely proud to be a part of the 2020 commemoration. Flags, fancy dress, tall ships and visiting vessels, propelled by people thrilled to be a part of this legacy event; it will be a sight to behold and we’re delighted that the procession will come as far as the marina so our berth holders can be a part of the festivities”.

PILGRIM OF BRIXHAM

Additionally, during the build up to 2020 as well as during Mayflower Week, there will be an opportunity to charter the 62’ replica Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter MERLIN. Recently built as a replica of these fast seaworthy vessels, she can take 12 guests out for a day sail with a qualified captain and crew. Her charter rate is £1,000 per day and it is recommended as an exciting or relaxing day out. Anchor off Blackpool Sands for lunch, take a closer look at Start Point Lighthouse or take a trip round to Brixham - the choice is yours! Alternatively, she can be chartered for receptions alongside for up to 20 people, with various catering options.
