Chick Corea Trilogy with Christian McBride and Brian Blade

Tuesday, October 15 at 7:30 pm $65/$55/$45

Seminal jazz keyboardist, composer, and bandleader Chick Corea brings together bass powerhouse Christian McBride and drum master Brian Blade in a two-time Grammy-winning trio. Corea has attained iconic status as a DownBeat Hall of Famer and NEA Jazz Master, as well as the fourth-most nominated artist in Grammy history (63 nods; 22 wins). Four-time Grammy-winner and former Burlington Discover Jazz Festival artist-in-residence McBride is a force of nature, fusing the fire and fury of a virtuoso with depth, while Brian Blade, a multi-talented young veteran, has drummed for artists such as Daniel Lanois, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Wayne Shorter, Seal, Bill Frisell, and Emmylou Harris. “Together we have an easy rapport,” Chick says of McBride and Blade. “There is a lot of give and take in our music. It’s always a lot of fun.”

Presented in association with the Office of the Vice President for Human Resources, Diversity, and Multicultural Affairs through the UVM President’s Initiative for Diversity.

Brian McCarthy Nonet

Thursday-Friday, November 7-8 at 7 pm $25 FLYNNSPACE

Saxophonist, composer, and arranger Brian McCarthy draws inspiration from the history of jazz while maintaining a modern awareness. In this premiere of his latest nonet, McCarthy’s compositions consider the arising of a giant stellar dust cloud, the Primordial Nebula. Out of stars, planets, order, and chaos emerges all that connects and shapes the world we live in. In 2017, McCarthy debuted his nonet The Better Angels of Our Nature in FlynnSpace; the record was named a Best Album of 2017 by HuffPost as well as DownBeat and Cadence magazines.
