CHAMBER PROFILE LASTWORD

CAROLYN GILES, owner of HR consultancy PepPer and Chamber Board Member, on how the Chamber can support you.

The Chamber continues to go from strength to strength with lots of exciting things on the horizon. A lot

has changed over the last year with a new CEO, Stuart Elford coming on board, new premises and with the launch of the new membership offer we are continuing to enhance our range of member benefits, extending our program of events and forging strategic partnerships that will benefit all our members. The Chamber is here to make conditions better

for business. We do this by any means we can: by lobbying for improved connectivity for the region; hosting events that add value to our members; providing access to training; offering advice on business matters and international trade; and by providing the latest information and updates on a range of subjects from the budget to Brexit. BCC runs the largest independent business

survey in the country – the QES (Quarterly Economic Survey). QES for me is vital, it’s the one opportunity that businesses in Devon, particularly small business members and micro business members, get to feed back their opinions directly through to the British Chambers of Commerce. The results are read at the very highest level of Government before any policy change that effects business. By completing this survey, you can ensure that you have your say. The Bank of England also looks at this very carefully as they want to know how businesses are affected. It’s also another way for us as the South West to really be heard. The development of Oceansgate is also key for

the area. Oceansgate is the anchor project for the Plymouth and South West Peninsula City Deal, a pioneering programme covering Cornwall, Devon, Plymouth, Torbay and Somerset. It is designed to bring significant and long-lasting economic growth to the far South West, creating thousands of jobs. The marine sector is really important for us in the South West and is a real draw for the City. It’s a real opportunity for us to be on the map and for people to recognise that we are creating some really exciting things in the region. Don’t forget we are here to

support you and get your voice heard so don’t hesitate to contact the Chamber or come along to one of our events. We look forward to seeing you.
