Every year in Périgueux, Dordogne, performers from around the globe demonstrate the capabilities of the human body, wordlessly transforming their limbs into messengers, becoming moving works of art. This year, the eclectic line-up includes La Chute des Anges (The Fall of the Angels), a post-apocalyptic story charting mankind’s destruction of nature; Icy-Plage, a tongue-in-cheek scorcher set on a beach; A Taste of Poison, comically critiquing the human condition – and plenty more to tickle the imagination. www.mimos.fr

Fête du Citron February 2020 (Dates TBC) This zesty carnival revolves around lemons and their role in making Menton one of Europe’s key citrus growers. Even if the sour fruit is not to your taste, the organic displays, made from hundreds upon hundreds of citrons and oranges, make for an eye-popping Mediterranean sensation. To make it even more fun, there’s a chosen theme every year. 2019 saw a number of ‘fantastical worlds’-inspired creations and all sorts of exotic, sky-scraping monsters.
