FESTIVALS 2019/20 THE GUIDE

platform for local talent to perform alongside

internationally-renowned bigger acts, is fast becoming a firm favourite for Corsican fans of electronica, pop and alternative music. Held over two days in an open-air amphitheatre in the northern town of Patrimonio, the festival makes the most of a Mediterranean summer and the inviting evenings of balmy darkness. Live performances are intermingled with DJ sets from a line-up of house, disco and soul selectors, all in a picturesque and dreamlike setting. www.ballaboum.com

Festival International de Colmar July 4-14, 2019

A chocolate-box vision of half-timbered homes and cobbled streets, the pretty Alsatian town of Colmar is a fairy-tale scene. So much so, in fact, that last year it was voted third in Europe’s Best Destinations list. Not a bad setting for a spot of culture, then! Every year, the town hosts a high- brow classical music festival

celebrating the best of the best, giving the floor to established musicians and rising stars alike. The 31st edition promises 24 concerts over ten days, covering the works of several prestigious composers. Exquisite. www.festival-colmar.com

Festival Européen de Musique Renaissance September 27-29, 2019 To mark an astonishing 500 years since Leonardo da Vinci’s death at the Château du Clos Lucé in the Val de Loire, the 14th European Renaissance Music Festival will be delivered by the capable hands of the Catalan composer, musician and humanist Jordi Savall, who will create a concert for Clos Lucé inspired by the legendary artist and his era. On Friday, the opening evening, Savall will be joined by around a dozen performers from the Concert des Nations, which he himself created in 1989 with the late Montserrat Figueras. Saturday and Sunday will feature concerts delivered by young talents
