FESTIVALS 2019/20 THE GUIDE

The Château du Clos Lucé is marking the 500th anniversary of Da Vinci’s death

the setting for a theatrical and musical adventure to mark the 500th anniversary of his death. The show, created by Martin Bellemare, Didier Girauldon and Constance Larrieu, and starring Thibault de Montalembert, revolves around an unexpected encounter between Leonardo and his contemporary heirs. It has specifi cally been created to be accessible to an audience of all ages (children from fi ve to 18 can attend for a reduced ticket price of €12) but you will need to understand French if you are going to get the most out of it, as although Leonardo was indeed a great inventor (among all his other remarkable achievements) unfortunately neither he – nor any of his heirs – ever developed a satisfactory system for subtitling theatre productions. www.vinci-closluce.com

Festival Equestria July 23-28, 2019

The National Stud at Tarbes, in the Hautes-Pyrénées, was created in 1806 under Napoleon to provide war horses, and today still produces competition horses of the very highest standard. Its summer festival is a celebration of equines and horsemanship, in which the days are fi lled with displays of the marvellous bonds that exist and are developed here between human and horse. Amid all the concomitant theatre, music, dance and dining, this is a rare chance to admire the power and beauty of these graceful creatures. www.festivalequestria.com
