Julian Smith is voted the year’s best franchisee

Derby’s Julian Smith has been named Franchisee of the Year at the annual UK Conference of The Alternative Board. Julian, who has facilitated

business owner peer boards and coached scores of business leaders since setting up TAB Derby in 2010, expanded its operation last year by taking on facilitator Jimi Ball. The result was that membership,

which was already the highest in the UK, has increased by a further 21%. He was judged best franchisee

by colleagues from across the country because of TAB Derby’s success and the bond he has created between its members. One citation said: “He is doing

great things with his business in Derby, especially pioneering an exciting working relationship with the Chamber of Commerce.” The Alternative Board, Derby

became a patron of East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire,

Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire) in 2018 and has held a number of successful joint events with the Chamber – with another Board Taster session taking place in Nottingham on 22 May. Ed Reid, Managing Director of

TAB in the UK, said: “This is yet more deserved recognition for Julian for the brilliant support he provides business leaders. “It shows that, if you’re a

business owner in Derby, you really should explore what Julian and Jimi have to offer.” Julian said: “I am very proud that

other TAB franchisees have recognised the work that we do here in Derby. Bringing Jimi on board has given us even greater depth. We love helping our current members and would be delighted to assist even more. Our plans for further growth are in place and two additional associates will join me this year.”
