d90 EVENT REVIEW / CEVISAMA 2019
Arcana’s Stracciatella tile is inspired by the Italian technique of Venetian terrazzo
VARIETY IS THE SPICE
Terrazzo tiles are increasing in popularity and being used in more unusual ways. It is an aesthetic that is highly valued by architects and interior designers thanks to its multiple qualities and design possibilities.
The Italian technique of the Venetian terrazzo has inspired Arcana's new Stracciatella series. The Stracciatella Nácar tile is a terrazzo of large chips that look like jewels of different sizes, and brings a touch of modernity to both walls and floors. This tile is said to be popular with architects and designers that want their projects to stand out.
Also along the lines of variation, avant-garde is another popular approach to tile design this year; whether this is alternating the pattern on the tile or the shape of the tile itself, to create a dynamic look. Stone Design’s Twinkle collection, for example, included tiles with and without curved edges so that when put together it creates gaps that makes the wall or floor ‘twinkle’. Also within this collection were tiles with simple markings that, again, when placed in different combinations creates interesting patterns.
