d60 KITCHENS & BATHROOMS / LIGHTING

FULLY IN CONTROL Mary Westmoreland, Marketing Manager, Sycamore Lighting Designers are increasingly looking for integrated lighting solutions within furniture. The overall lighting scheme within the kitchen or bathroom also needs to provide different options in relation to aesthetics and functionality, for example, to supplement the furniture lighting pendants and ceiling lights with smart control technology.

Smart switching technology – which includes wireless switching app and voice-controlled lighting – can be used with all types of lighting. This allows different zones to be created by using our kinetic battery-free switches, Amazon Alexa, Google Play, and via a smart device. Colour tunable solutions can be controlled using this technology, allowing the colour temperature to be controlled to the clients' required taste between cool, natural, or warm white settings. INTEGRATED THINKING Joe Mitchell, Marketing Manager, Sensio Lighting Retailers are achieving some fantastic designs combining add-on kitchen furniture end panels with different light fittings. The recent trend of using end panels to wrap around wall units, instead of pelmets and cornices, has allowed lighting to be effectively integrated into the furniture. Clients may want the ambience and tone that the lighting creates but they do not want to see the actual light fittings. These add-on panels are easier to router and make it easier to retrofit the lighting too. The electrician’s job is made easier if they are not having to take walls down to modify and accommodate certain light fittings.

I would also urge designers to consider the benefits of multi-temperature lighting as it is hugely important and influential to our mood, and wellbeing. As we tend to spend more time indoors, we are no longer subject to natural lighting fluctuations, and multi-temperature light fittings aim to allow people to capture these changing contrasts with the home. As our understanding of the importance of good lighting evolves, we believe this will become an industry standard in years to come. Sensio / sensio.co.uk
