d59 KITCHENS & BATHROOMS / LIGHTING

DARING DESIGN Marketa Rypacek, Managing Director, Industville

Brooklyn 5 Wire Pendant in a brass finish from Industville, shown in a room designed by Miffy Shaw Interiors

We are seeing bolder kitchen colours and dark walls with contrasting brass lights, which offers a contrast of cool and warm bouncing off each other. A lot of metallic accents are also being included in kitchen design from taps to kitchen handles and of course, lighting.

Clustered lighting or over-the-island lighting is a big trend that is set to continue. A popular option for putting the spotlight on worktops or counters is the Brooklyn Dome Pendant 13 inch. Pairing three or five together above counters gives a focal point in the kitchen as well as creating a welcoming atmosphere. The trend is about combining rough and delicate, creating textures.

Investment in bathrooms has increased in recent years and consumers are much more daring. We are seeing lots of texture in the bathroom, with consumers making the most of textured tiles and quality furniture, which look great when paired with urban industrial- style lighting. Metallic finishes continue to be popular, with brass in particular making a comeback with a vengeance. The latest on-trend metallic shades such as copper, pewter, and brass can be implemented through mirror frames and lighting shades for a simple, yet effective colour scheme. In terms of integrated options, with the current trend for dark woods and grey finishes for today’s cabinets and furniture, an opportunity has been created for new finishes in the lighting sector. Anthracite is a contemporary finish that will complement any modern interior design scheme and offers a stylish alternative to brushed nickel finishes. The demand for seamless lighting and non-dotting LED continues to grow apace, especially when coupled with reflective and visible surfaces. Today’s consumers expect their lighting to enhance interior designs and create beautiful and functional spaces. Leyton Lighting / leyton-lighting.co.uk
