4 April 2019 Halesworth & Southwold Community News

FOUNDED in 1884 Southwold Golf Club is the second oldest golf club in Suffolk. Thanks to the free-draining soil (one of the big benefits of being on the coast) the course is playable all year round, you won’t get dirty shoes here!

Club Manager, Gareth Jones, explains that despite being such a well-established club, they are always looking

at ways

to improve their offering and move the club forward. Golf is a game steeped in tradition and it is important to maintain that but by constantly evolving and offering new services to the members and public alike.

The Club is delighted to welcome PGA Professional Richard Smith. Richard has been the ‘club pro’ for the last three months and runs weekly sessions for all ages

abilities. In addition to these sessions, Richard offers lessons to cater for any golfer looking to improve their game. Lessons can be taken on the practice ground or a playing lesson out on the course is also available. It is fair to say that a few lessons with a top professional will go a long way to improving your game so please do get in touch and see how Richard can help your game.

Southwold Golf Club has around 400 members with an excellent rate of retention, in short, once someone has joined, they tend to stay. However, attracting new members is always a priority and to this end the Club is running an offer for new members with a reduction on the first year of their full membership. Starting in April 2019 the rate for first time members will be only £399. This promotion is for the first year of full membership only.

Another new membership option plays to the strength of brand Southwold and the holiday homes and visitors to the town. There is now an

option to join as holiday home membership. This entitles any

one person staying at

the member house to play at the club. Holiday home membership is only £379 for the year and is a great way of adding value and interest to a holiday cottage. Southwold is such a popular destination town that it attracts holiday makers all year round – with the course open and playable through winter months, holiday home membership is beneficial 52 weeks of the year.

Southwold Golf Club is a registered Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC), open to the whole community. This means that: membership

and facilities are open to all without discrimination. This a very much a club at the heart of the community and with community at its heart.

Members initially

join for their love of golf and the opportunity to play this stunning picturesque course. Of course, good golf is a major reason for joining, but the chance to be part of this

sociable, friendly and welcoming club is surely just as important.
