HALESWORTH dementia

CARERS' FUND

SPRING has sprung and the daffodils are in full flower – roll on summer. Our March film at the Cut on

Wednesday 20th, "Bohemian Rhapsody’’ was a roaring success! Our second highest attendance! Our next matinee will be on

Wednesday 15th May. This will be “A Star Is Born” starring Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper and Sam Elliott. Normal entrance donation of £5 - last tickets and those for the raffle are at 2.45pm for a prompt 3pm start for the film. We are very grateful to the kind people who donate such nice prizes. Think of us and donate if you have anything suitable. We will be holding a Carers' Day on Thursday 25th April from 10am to 6.30pm at The Cut. This is in partnership with the Halesworth Volunteer Centre. There will be a rolling programme of speakers and information over the day, with free taster sessions of a wide range of activities and of course refreshments. This will be a very full and informative event open to anyone who looks after someone else - all are welcome. It isn’t just for those caring for someone with dementia but for all Carers. Don’t forget April 25th. The event is completely free and we look forward to lots of people accessing the information and help available whilst enjoying the day.

IN December 2008, a regional paper reported "Plans for a new indoor swimming pool and fitness gym for Halesworth are on the horizon." The chairman of Halesworth Playing Field Association at that time" revealed that it had been in negotiations with Waveney District Council about getting a new indoor swimming pool and fitness gym for the town.”

Since 2008, the Halesworth Swimming Club, while remaining affiliated to the HPFA, has had to use the Bungay and Harleston pools

for its two groups, the

Dolphins and the Ducklings. In spite of 45% of residents who responded to a survey in 2015 stating that swimming was their normal sporting activity, no swimming pool has been built. Therefore the Swimming Club and Halesworth Community Sport and Leisure, HPFA’s successor, have agreed to part company since HCSL can offer the Swimming Club no benefits to remain affiliated. The Trustees of HCSL would

like thank Rita Hales and her team for their enthusiasm, hard work and dedication teaching people of all ages to swim. Over the years they must have taught and coached hundreds to swim and compete. The Trustees wish them every success in the future and hope that one day they will be able to return to a swimming pool in Halesworth. When

Waveney District

Council decided that they no longer wished to run the outdoor swimming pool at Dairy Hill, according to the lease, it should have been handed back to Halesworth Playing Fields Association in good condition. Instead it was demolished. The demolition of Halesworth’s swimming pool was carried out with a complete disregard for the terms of the lease that Waveney District Council had signed with the HPFA. The current Dairy Hill Trustees cannot find any agendas on which the return of the swimming pool to HPFA is listed nor any minutes of any discussions about WDC
