ROSEDALE Funeral Home in association with Barclays Bank are holding a Charity Golf day in aid of Nature and Nurture children's bereavement charity and Emmaus a charity that aims to combat poverty and homelessness, at Bungay & Waveney Golf Club on Thursday 13th June. Coffee and bacon baps will be available on arrival with a shotgun start at 9.30am, playing off the yellow tees. There will be a 2 course lunch and prize- giving to follow the Golf. Hope and Aid Direct


THE date of departure of the next convoy comprising the 40 tonner and 2 x 7.5 ton trucks has been brought forward and it will now depart on March 17th whilst we are still members of the EU but roads are likely to be much busier than usual with pre-Brexit traffic. The trucks are already partially loaded and will include 8 pallets of food, including 6 of tinned food, and a further 2 pallets of toothpaste, toothbrushes and toiletries. The load will also include 900 former British

wheelchairs, blankets etc! In Athens it will deliver aid to a local charity called Pampiraiki which is run by Negia Milian, a Greek/Cuban lady. She has a team of local volunteers and they support approximately 5,000 refugees a week with meals and other essential items, both in


Athens and throughout mainland Greece. From Athens the convoy will


go on to Lesvos, Chios, and possibly Samos before crossing back to Athens. It is planned to start the return journey on April 1st, with drops in Greece on the way north, and to be back in Calais on April 5th.


Our son Charles outbound co- driver will be Bill Hunter, an old friend who has been to Lesvos many times of his own volition, and stayed for weeks on end, assisting local charities; for the homebound trip it will be Lloyd Nunn, a new volunteer.

There is heart warming co- operation between charities. Some of these are GRACE (Greenwich Refugee Aid and Community Enterprises) who donated £1,100 to buy 1100 sets of underwear; RAFT (Refugee Action for Taunton); Friends of Refugees in Bedford; Farnham help for Refugees; and Ripple Effect Lancaster. As I have said before there are hundreds more of all races and creeds who really care. What a pity a few governments do not show a little compassion!
