Available in Kent from February through to around May or June, fresh asparagus should be bright green with no signs of shrivelling. Te tips should take on a purplish hue and but firm to the touch. Kent and many of the other home counties provide the free-draining, sandy loams which asparagus loves and with a London market just up the road, there is hardly a problem with demand.
