CHAMBER PROFILE LASTWORD

Chair of Devon & Plymouth Chamber, RICHARD STEVENS, on how the Chamber is championing local business interests

In these ever-changing political times the Chamber of

Commerce is the best vehicle to influence future policies that will affect business. We continue to work for you behind the scenes lobbying local politicians, ministers and MP’s to get your voices heard in Parliament. The Devon & Plymouth Chamber of

Commerce is a partner of the British Chambers of Commerce South West, an alliance of the accredited County Chambers in the region (Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset and Bristol) which have joined forces to enable a powerful coordinated regional business voice. Coming together brings greater strength in numbers, enabling us (with our partners) to facilitate the best environment for business to grow. I believe that this is necessary to give us the capacity to thrive in all sectors. As a region we need to see our economy

grow and in working together we can take it from strength to strength. We as a Chamber are here for you and we continue to work on your behalf. Transport will always be a key strategic issue for us here in the South West and the Devon & Plymouth Chamber makes it a priority to lobby for improved connectivity and investment in transport infrastructure to help improve business conditions in the region. Having said that, in this increasing world of digital technology, we are now able to work more cohesively without being in the same room. Therefore, we campaign for better digital connectivity (fibre, 5G and mobile) alongside physical transport infrastructure. The Plymouth Area Business Council

‘The Devon

& Plymouth Chamber makes it a priority to lobby for improved connectivity and

investment in transport infrastructure’

(PABC) which is the economic development policy advisory body of the Chamber is now fully integrated within our Chamber. PABC members are an important part of the Chamber and I look forward to welcoming them to the 2019 programme of events. Despite all the frustrations associated with

Brexit we are entering a new era and I would like to wish you all a positive and successful year ahead. If you have any contacts who are not members, please do not hesitate to contact Stuart and the team. We look forward to seeing you all at our upcoming Chamber events.
