Welcome to the new format, larger, perfect-bound, quarterly Chamber Profile magazine, which is packed with interesting news and features. We hope you will contribute and be
proud to appear in the publication, have it in your reception area and showcase what great business is being done here. The new format is just one of many changes here at the Chamber. You will have seen our new
brand, we are welcoming new members of staff, our events programme is being continually enhanced and the Devon Business Show promises to be the best yet. Keep an eye on the website and the Chamber Bytes weekly e-newsletter for details of all future events. The Chamber is also driving effective lobbying at local, regional and national level. Plymouth Area
Business Council (PABC), which is now administered by the Chamber, is continuing to work closely with Plymouth City Council and act as a ‘critical friend’ on behalf of the business community. We are working hard with our affiliate and partner town chambers to deliver a distinct Devon voice
and I have started regular meetings with local MPs to ensure that voice is both heard and heeded. Devon and Plymouth Chamber now also Chairs the newly-formed British Chambers of Commerce
South West (BCCSW), a powerful alliance of all the accredited county chambers to rival the Northern Powerhouse and Midlands Engine, providing a unified voice for business in the Great South West that is recognised and supported by both the Local Enterprise Partnerships and Government alike. BCC runs the largest independent business survey in the country – the QES (Quarterly Economic
Survey). The results of this survey are read at the very highest level of Government before any policy change that effects business, so please make sure you take the time to have your say by completing the survey. As I write this I am aware the magazine will be hitting your desks with Brexit imminent. There has been
much talk of the uncertainty around Brexit and that frustration has been communicated to Government. While we retain a completely apolitical position, we have campaigned to avoid a messy and
disorderly Brexit; like a plane preparing for a ‘forced’ landing, the conditions must be as good as they can be to avoid a ‘crash’ landing. Whatever the future holds, you can be assured that your Chamber will be here to help
you, will be fighting your corner and helping you to take advantage of every opportunity that arises.
